After studying the LA Rams design and playing around with the W of Washington I created a basic design

As you can see the W shifts into the tail of a plane. I kept the W gold and the tail burgundy for the team colors and so that the actual tail was a red tail as the name would suggest. I added a curved line to the left side of the W to add a suggested motion to the tail and to make the W seem more connected to the tail. I then added parts of the tail that seemed to peel off of the edge to reinforce the idea of direction and to suggest a sort of speed.

I then settled on the top design after playing around with the original basic shape. I added shades of burgundy to the edges of the tail to add more dimension to the tail and make it seem less 2D. After doing so I felt that the tail was a little to busy so I attempted to simplify it while still maintaining a range of colors. I decreased the amount of cuts in the tail until I was left with just 1 split in the wing and 2 spikes. I also squashed the dimensions slightly to make the W feel more balanced/strong. Lastly I curved the top corner of the right side of the W. I did this in order to make the W feel more connected and to make the right side look less like a check mark that was separate from the design.

After meeting with my professor, we decided that I should add a shadow to add further dimension to the W and this would also allow me connect the W. I also decided to change the dark edge of the tail to a shadow on the W to simplify the color scheme. This shadow also helps establish its function as it shows up twice now.
